JVI explores the nature of the viruses of animals, archaea, bacteria, fungi, plants, and protozoa. We welcome papers on virion structure and assembly, viral genome replication and regulation of gene expression, genetic diversity and evolution, virus-cell interactions, cellular responses to infection, transformation and oncogenesis, gene delivery, viral pathogenesis and immunity, and vaccines and antiviral agents.
JVI welcomes the following article types for publication:

As part of the submission process, authors are to provide a 150-word "Importance" paragraph, a nontechnical summary written in language that conveys the importance of the work to nonspecialists.
JVI is now Format Neutral.
ASM primary research journals will consider for publication manuscripts that have been posted in a recognized not-for-profit preprint archive. Please review our preprint policy announcement for more information.
