EDITORIAL

Journal of Virology (JVI) continues to be the premier virology journal, with 88,684 citations in 2018. JVI remains the #1 cited journal out of 36 journals in the Virology category. The editors and reviewers are to be commended for their hard work to ensure that the review process is constructively critical, fair, and objective and that turnaround times are prompt. The average time from manuscript submission to the editors’ first decision letter now stands at 25 days. In particular, I would like to thank Terence Dermody and Wesley Sundquist, who completed their terms as JVI Editors in June 2019, for their outstanding work on behalf of the journal, and welcome Felicia Goodrum and Colin Parrish, who began their terms as Editors on 1 July 2019. I also want to thank Chris Sullivan and Billy Tsai, who completed their terms as Associate Editors, for their excellent efforts in launching the Gems feature and continued efforts for its success. I welcome Hector Aguilar, Sabra Klein, Anice Lowen, and Vera Tarakanova as new Associate Editors for Gems.

I thank all of the JVI reviewers over the past year. I would especially like to thank the following 25 reviewers, whose service to JVI during the past year was exceptional in the total number of manuscripts reviewed and in submitting reviews in 14 days or less and accepting the invitation to review more than 80% of the time.
