About the Cover

Cover Figure

Cover photograph (Copyright © 2003, American Society for Microbiology. All Rights Reserved.): ND10 component promyelocytic leukemia protein (PML) relocates to the periphery of human papillomavirus type 1 (HPV1) E4 intranuclear inclusion bodies in warts. The cover shows a digital confocal micrograph of an HPV1 wart section fixed in paraformaldehyde and permeabilized in Triton X-100. The section was stained for E4 (red) and PML (green). Nuclei were counterstained with 4`,6-diamidino-2-phenylindole (blue). E4 is expressed in suprabasal keratinocytes and locates to multiple cytoplasmic and nuclear inclusions. In cells containing nuclear E4 inclusions, PML redistributes from multiple intranuclear speckles to the nuclear inclusion and partially colocalizes with E4.
