DNA-binding domain of EBNA1 coats metaphase chromosomes. Metaphase
spreads were retrieved from colcemid-blocked 293 cells expressing a
chimeric protein consisting of the DNA-binding domain of Epstein-Barr
virus nuclear antigen 1 fused to the high mobility group protein
HMGA1a. Deconvolved images captured after indirect immunofluorescence
against EBNA1 revealed a punctate localization to metaphase chromosomes
counterstained with DAPI. This staining profile is strikingly similar
to that displayed by wild-type EBNA1. (
