AUTHOR'S CORRECTION

Changes in Mumps Virus Gene Sequence Associated with Variability in Neurovirulent Phenotype

Steven A. Rubin, Georgios Amexis, Mikhail Pletnikov, Jacqueline Vanderzanden, Jeremy Mauldin, Christian Sauder, Tahir Malik, Konstantin Chumakov, and Kathryn M. Carbone

DVP/Office of Vaccines Research and Review, Center for Biologics Evaluation and Research, Food and Drug Administration, Bethesda, Maryland 20892, and Departments of Psychiatry and Medicine, Johns Hopkins University, Baltimore, Maryland 21205

Volume 77, no. 21, p. 11616-11624, 2003. An error was made in the sequence of strain 88-1961 submitted to GenBank (accession number AF467767) wherein the nucleotide at genome position 4816 (position 271 in the fusion gene) was originally reported as being a heterogeneous mixture of A/C. The correct nucleotide mixture at this position is A/G. As a result, the correct predicted amino acids at position 91 in the viral fusion protein are threonine/alanine, not threonine/proline. This correction affects Table 2 and instances in the text where the amino acid proline (instead of alanine) is mentioned in reference to the 88-1961 mumps virus strain (twice each in the Results and Discussion).

This error does not affect any of the study conclusions or interpretations of the results.
