Previously Infected Chimpanzees

Volume 75, no. 3, p. 1533-1539, 2001. It has been brought to our
attention that the chimpanzee referred to as uninfected in this article
(C534), while uninfected with HIV-1, was previously inoculated with
HIV-2. C534 demonstrated a low-level serological reactivity to HIV-2
prior to infection with HIV-1NC, but virus was never
recovered from PBMC. Despite the absence of cross-reactive antibodies
to HIV-1 prior to HIV-1NC inoculation, the prior infection of C534 with HIV-2 may have influenced the kinetics of HIV-1
seroconversion in this animal.
